2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season: June 1-November 30
2019 Pacific Hurricane Season: May 15-November 30
The North Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1 and lasts through Nov. 30. The U.S. Census Bureau produces timely local statistics that are critical to emergency planning, preparedness and recovery efforts. The population growth of coastal areas illustrates the importance of emergency planning and preparedness for areas that are more susceptible to tropical storms and hurricanes. The Census Bureau’s rich economic and demographic statistics from the American Community Survey and the Economic Census give communities a detailed look at local statistics for emergency planning for the nation’s growing coastal population and businesses.

In 2018, the United States had major impacts from hurricanes Florence and Michael. Using publicly available and easy to use tools, such as OnTheMap for Emergency Management and Census Business Builder: Regional Analyst, the Census Bureau was able to supply more than a thousand demographic and economic reports and maps to emergency planners and the public. The reports can be found at Emergency Preparedness, Hurricanes.
